The Ranch Susanna Foundation was established in 2023 to honor the life of Ashley Elizabeth “Beth” Garrett, who lost her life in a car accident on October 2, 2021. Beth was a force of nature who never met a stranger. After losing Beth, her father, Doug Garret and stepmother, Meg Garrett, began searching for ways they could channel Beth’s loving energy into purpose.
Over the next year and a half, Mr. and Mrs. Garrett were presented with multiple opportunities to help people in need of financial support. Through these humbling opportunities, the purpose of the foundation was revealed to the couple.
Throughout West Virginia, people frequently live less than paycheck to paycheck, constantly having to choose between vital necessities.
That's where The Ranch Susanna Foundation comes in.
The foundation has a five-member board of directors led by Chairman, Doug Garrett and Vice-Chair Paige Garrett Tanner, Beth's Father and Sister. Represented in the board membership are financial institutions, local businesses, the faith community and the recovery community.
Mr. Garrett brings over thirty years of experience in the gas pipeline business, specializing in pipeline integrity. His talent for leadership and his incredible work ethic make him a wonderful role model for young people in our community.
Ms. Tanner is a graduate of Concord University with a degree in Recreational Tourism Management – Programs and Promotions. Her degree, combined with her creativity and attention to detail, make her a huge asset to the foundation in the arena of event planning and fundraising.
Ms. Garrett brings twenty-seven years of corporate experience to this role, the last ten of which were spent in executive leadership positions. Her expertise in finance and her dedication to service make her a wonderful fit for this role.
Mr. Garret holds both an undergraduate and masters degree from West Virginia University. He brings to the foundation significant experience in the nonprofit world, beginning with his participation in 4-H and FFA as a youngster. Now, Mr. Garrett currently serves as treasurer of the Lewis County 4-H Adult Leaders Association, Lewis County 4-H Youth Foundation, and the Broad Run Baptist Church. Finally, he is the current President of the Upshur County FFA Alumni & Supporters and is a board member of the United Way of Lewis, Upshur, & Gilmer.
